Comments: Alan, Johanna and I just heard about your mishap today (5-28-00) from Brad Abshur. I guess we are out of the loop somewhat. After reading Mike's daily report on your condition, it seems that you are on your way back to vim and viger. Good going! I saw Marco yesterday for the first time in a while and I'm assuming he didn't know that you are illin'. I'll try and get in touch with him. Anyway, we are relived to hear that you are on the upswing, and will soon be back to playing the greatest shows whatever been gave. Hang in there buddy and if you need anything please let us know. Just keep hanging in there and try not to flirt with the nurses too much. Bill says to save your strength for a Tulsa gig! Tell your brother that we really appreciate his updates on your condition. You just say the word when you're up to having visitors and we'll be there. Take good care and we hope to see you soon. Much love to you.

Comments: Hey Alan- Ronnie told us about your accident, we're glad you are still among us. It was so funny cause we were just looking at Halloween pics a few weeks ago at Pat and Ronnies and we were looking at the one where you were wearing the basketball costume...the one with Relay on the front....that cracked me up. God was that the 80's? Yellow and blue? Could those shorts be any shorter? Things have changed alot except that you are still as tall...ha ha. Those were the days....not! Oh well, we'll be thinking of you...take care of yourself, we may have to have a recreation of those Halloween parties for old times sake, OR the ever threatened Relay reunion tour....till then-Jennifer and Dean

Comments: Hello alan. Sounds like you're having some kind of rough time after your last surgery. I hardly know what to say as you've already endured so much. You have so many friends out here that do not have access to internet, so you can't know how many are praying for you. It is safe to say that you are held in high esteem by all that you have touched (except for the little boy at that swimming pool). I feel fortunate for having experienced your wit and humor at a few longggg playing engagements. It sure helped to remind me not to take things too seriously, and it was closing time before I knew it. We will all be relieved when Mike says that you went longer between pain medications or had a good nights rest. Heal quickly and know that the multitudes are thinking of you everyday all day. Rick & Karen

Comments: Alan: Sorry it took me so long to log onto your website. My Internet service provider took a dive the day after I left PennWell, and I've had no web access since May 10. Finally, tonight, I was able to get back online. Also I've been in Chicago for five days ... But enough of my excuses. I gather from your bro's updates that you are coming along well. I hope you are feeling up to visitors soon, so's I can bring Mitchell and let him jump all over your bed. Kidding of course. ....... Jennifer sends her love, and Chad and Tom send their regards. Chad's in Hawaii right now so we can feel free to hate him. ....... Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you or your family. I'm sure they're caring for you very well, but I'm eager to help in any way I can. Do you have tunes there? I can bring in a boom box or a CD walkman or something. But you'll have to make due with my few Helen Reddy CDs. I know my collection is not as complete as yours. ....... I'm writing a letter to Cycle World about you. It's titled "A premature obituary." That Sunday night made me realize, as I'm sure it did most of your other friends, just what a bastard, ... er, what a great person you are. Seriously, it's pretty pathetic that we so often wait until someone's funeral to express our appreciation for who they are. ....... I'll let you see the letter when it's finished, but of course every word will be platinum, Pulitzer prize stuff, so you can't change anything. ....... In any case, if they print it, they'll probably want to know where donations should be sent. So please let me know if you have an account set up or if you want me to do so, ... or if you'd prefer I direct them to a charity or something. The Blue Ribbon Coalition leaps to mind, as does the MSF. ....... Hey, speaking of the BRC, did you hear Clinton's Roadless initiative got quashed? ....... Anyway it's late so I'm gonna go. I'll update you on other matters when you're up to it. ....... Hugs & Kisses -- wet ones, with tongue (you wish) ....... MTB

You're one tough hombre. We are most grateful that the creator has elected to keep you amongst us for another chance to vote in the primary elections. Several hundred of us have placed flowers and your picture from the White Album around your driveway. I hope you will allow us to visit you as soon as you are up to a silent pop in. I don't care to ask a load of silly questions, just a supportive wave of the hand. This will pass and you will laugh and we will all be there for you. Enough, may you find comfort anywhere you can. I can't wait to come to Tulsa and give you the finger!!!! I was relieved to learn your fretting hand was unharmed and your "picking" hand was better than previously thought. I have to believe God had a few Angels watching over you in the form of those two gentlemen who acted so quickly to try and preserve your life. You and Mike come visit and check out my band in Bricktown later this summer and the beer is on me. Hang in there with the pain. It should only get better and better from here on out! I'll see you when they start letting visitors in!

Comments: Hey Alan, You'll do anything to get your own web page I guess!! Seriously, my stomach went into my throat when I read the title to Mike's e-mail. I'm very glad you're alive but sounds like it was very close for a while. This wouldn't have anything to do with a plan by you to come up with an excuse to miss the upcoming "Bullwinkle" Movie would it???? I'm showing this to my son and going to urge him even more to be as safe as possible. He and I are riding Motocross together. He has a YZ-80 and I have a DR-350. We load em' on a trailer and go to different tracks around the State. We ride strictly off-road though. It's so much fun to ride but in the back of my head I know there's an inherent risk involved in having this kind of fun. Where would a person go to visit you and what are the best hours? When you get out we need to get together. I'm playing in a pretty good cover band in OKC called "Psycho Diva and the Couch Doctors" (guess who came up with that name?). We'll be playing on the canal in Bricktown later this summer and I'd love it if you and Mike would come and listen. It's 70% current music (Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morrisette, Lisa Loeb, the Cranberrys, Tonic, etc. and the other 30% is Classic Rock. Get well soon and let's get together! Pat Powell
